Our standard

A page on this site should let a host run the game successfully without having played it before. That is the test we apply to everything, and it is why each game follows the same structure: quick rules, an honest summary of who and what it needs, full instructions, a worked example round, a clear ending and two variations.

Originality and sources

Traditional games. Many games here — charades, twenty questions, two truths and a lie — are traditional, with no single author. Their mechanics cannot be owned, and we do not claim to have invented them. Each game page has an “About this game” note that says where the format comes from.

Our own words. Every rule explanation, example round, facilitation note, diagram and printable is written or drawn for this site. We do not copy text from other websites, books or commercial games.

Original prompts. Every prompt in every pack is original to this site. We do not reproduce commercial card decks. Our prompts deliberately avoid film franchises, celebrities and brands, both for copyright reasons and so that they work for an international, mixed-age audience.

Our own formats. A few games, such as Conversation Ladder and Team Object Pitch, are our own arrangements of familiar ideas. Their pages say so.

External facts. Where a page states a checkable fact that is not about a game — for example, the dimensions of paper sizes — we link to a primary or authoritative source.

Use of AI tools

We use AI-assisted drafting tools in producing this site, including for first drafts of explanations and for generating candidate prompts. We do not publish their output unchecked. Text is edited for clarity and consistency, and every page must pass the checklist below. Automated tools also verify things that are easy to get wrong by hand: that each prompt pack contains exactly the number of prompts stated, that no prompt is duplicated within a pack, and that every internal link works.

We do not generate content at the moment you visit. Everything you read was written, checked and published in advance.

Editorial checks versus playtesting

These are different things, and we keep them apart.

Editorially checked means that a page has been reviewed against our checklist:

  • The rules are complete, in order, and include a clear end condition.
  • The stated minimum and practical maximum number of players are consistent with how the game actually works, and the page explains how to split larger groups.
  • The materials list is accurate. A game described as needing no equipment has no hidden requirement.
  • A game described as seated has no step that requires standing.
  • The example round follows the rules as written.
  • Prompts are clean, non-targeted, and free of sensitive personal topics.
  • Nothing claims a health, therapeutic or educational benefit.

Playtested would mean that we have run the game, as written on the page, with a real group and recorded the result. We do not currently claim group playtesting for any page on this site. Each game page says this plainly. If we add documented playtesting in future, the page will say when and with what size of group.

For the same reason, all play times and preparation times are editorial estimates, not measurements. They are labelled as estimates wherever they appear.

Inclusion and tone

  • Games are written for adult hosts and mixed-age groups. Children take part alongside the adults who brought them.
  • We describe older adults as adults. We do not suggest that any game treats or prevents any condition, including memory loss, dementia or loneliness.
  • Every active game states honestly whether a seated version genuinely works.
  • Prompts never ask for sensitive personal information, and conversation games always include permission to pass.
  • Humor is never aimed at a group of people.

Dates and updates

Each page shows the date of its last substantive edit. We do not change dates to make pages look fresh, and we do not change URLs once published. When we correct an error that affected how a game is played, we update the date.

Advertising and independence

We do not accept payment for including or recommending a game, and we do not publish sponsored content or affiliate links. If advertising appears on the site in future, it will be clearly labelled, kept away from interactive controls, and will have no influence on what we write.

Corrections

If you find a rule that is unclear, a prompt that should not be here, or a factual error, please tell us through the contact page. We read every message and correct confirmed errors promptly.
